28 March 2023 10.30 – 12.30

Guided tour for arbitration practitioners at the Elbphilharmonie followed by refreshments

On the occasion of the Hamburg International Arbitration Days (HIAD), the Hamburg Arbitration Circle (HAC) cordially invites international arbitration practitioners to a guided tour at the Elbphilharmonie with refreshments at the Westin Hotel at the end of the tour.

Meet colleagues and gain detailed insights into the extraordinary architecture and musical program of Hamburg’s cultural landmark in the HafenCity, the Elbphilharmonie. The Elbphilharmonie opened its doors for the first time on 11 January 2017. On the banks of the river Elbe, supported by approximately 1,700 reinforced concrete piles, a modern building complex has emerged which contains – in addition to 3 concert halls – a hotel, 45 private apartments and the Plaza, a public viewing area with a 360° view of the city. The centrepiece of the Elbphilharmonie is also currently one of the most exciting structural projects in Europe: a world-class concert hall that is detached from the rest of the building for soundproofing reasons. Situated at a height of 50 metres above ground level in a unique location in Hamburg’s historic port, and with seating for 2,100 people, the Elbphilharmonie is the perfect symbiosis of architecture and music…

The tour will take you around the former warehouse upon which the Elbphilharmonie was built, via the Plaza and through the foyers to the heart of the Elbphilharmonie – the Grand Hall. The tour is followed by a social gathering with refreshments at the Westin Hotel, which is in the same building.

The tour is limited to 30 participants. Please register under info@hamburg-arbitration.de

From 23 to 25th March 2021, the 5th CAM-CCBC Hanseatic Pre-Moot was held in an online format due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic with the participation of 38 teams logging in from all over the world: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, England, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Turkey and USA. The event was supported by numerous local law firms, the Hamburg Arbitration Circle, the Rechtsstandort Hamburg e.V., the Vis Moot Court Alumni Association of the University of Hamburg and Wolters Kluwer.

The Pre-Moot kicked off with the International Hamburg Arbitration Day at the Bucerius Law School with lectures on selected issues on multi party arbitration, non-signatories, joinder and consolidation supported inter alia by Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) and Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek. The lectures were held by Prof. Dr. Fabiane Vercosa, Prof Dr. Stavors Brekoulakis, Dr. Flavia Mange, Prof. Dr. Daniel Giersberger and Dr. David Quinke. The event ended with an online networking get-together.

The pleading sessions of the 5th CAM-CCBC Hanseatic Pre-Moot took place the next day. Hosted by 19 participating Hamburg law firms, three pleading rounds took place. The participants were i.a. faced with problems pertaining to the joinder of third parties under the Swiss Rules and the admissibility of a virtual hearing. Over the course of the day, the outstanding teams had the opportunity to present their pleadings, assess and improve different argumentation strategies as last test before the official Vis Moot court.

On 25 th March, the eight best speakers were announced in an online ceremony in presence of Mr Gary Born who gave an opening speech on the advantages of international arbitration.

Special thanks go to the supporting law firms Addleshaw Goddard, Baumann Resolving Disputes, Brödermann Jahn, CMS Hasche Sigle, Eversheds Sutherland, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Hanefeld Rechtsanwälte, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, Hogan Lovells, GSK Stockmann, Latham & Watkins, Luther, Manner Spangenberg, Neuwerk, Quinn Emanuel, SKW Schwarz, Taylor Wessing and White & Case.
